Final 'Fresh' Mood Board

Final 'Fresh' Mood Board

How and why I chose these images:
This is my final mood board for my inspirational word 'Fresh' because of having further feedback and so I needed to add more texture that I was inspired by to my board.
After looking at my second attempt of my mood board, it had too many images of makeup, so I started looking into what the word 'Fresh' made me feel like and linked the word with weather, how it effects things around us, like ice, pale, white complexions and earthy, neutral tones; this slowly captured images from pinterest to add to my board.
I researched on pinterest: Ice, cool palettes, refresh, ocean deep, wet photography, ocean photography, breeze etc. This is how my collaboration expanded to this.

First of all I went from simply typing in fresh, then grabbing inspiration from images from colours to textures to designs. I also looked into white paint because this made me think of fresh, that smell of newly painted walls, I then looked into ocean photography because I thought of the ocean, then shells, crystals etc. it expanded and simply came together after retrying it and gathering the ideal images. I simply loved the texture from the shells, the crystal effects from the salt granolas and gave me inspiration for my makeup design. From my mood board I knew I would use texture in my design.

Inspirational word Face Chart Designs

Inspirational word Face Chart Designs
'Fresh'
Here are a few face chart designs I gathered for my inspirational word 'Fresh', I collaborated ice, blue and white tones with products which were inspired by imagery on my pinterest board, from weather through to materials. I was heavily influenced by the ocean with the use of the blue, silver and white tones I designed because I felt this fit my word.

However, looking over these I felt it was too literal and I needed to think more widely about my word and where I could expand on it and collaborate something unique that would stand out.

Photography- Technical week 2 & 3

Technical week 2 & 3...

What we did and how...
This week in our technical class we looked at how we could shoot our beauty shots with the use of the beauty dish, black boards to diffuse light and shooting up close on eyes and lips. I found it very interesting testing this out and how precise you have to be with makeup because in the photo it will show everything in detail and you can't rely on photo shop to hide your mistakes.

We set our camera to 1/160 on manual with shutter speed of 100.

We took turns to get up and take some test shots of the lips, we applied a lip gloss to make the photo pop and really look beautiful.

It was the first time setting up in this way which is shown below on my images taken, with the large reflector board either side, the beauty dish, the black boards and two more reflector boards behind them, It was very full on in this lesson, but I learnt a lot by getting stuck in and not being afraid to make mistakes because it's how you learn and progress. It was daunting knowing where everything went but we worked well as a team to structure the shoot.

I enjoyed seeing what worked with what lighting and using different equipment, it gave me ideas whether to take on a risk and try a close up shot, therefore I will research into my brand image and editorial and see if these kind of photos fit with my theme. However, I was a new experience and enjoyed seeing what we could do in the future.

A few more images of my week looking at using close up images of either the eyes or the lips.

Inspirational word 'Fresh' Mood Board & feedback (first attempt)

'Fresh'Mood Board
First attempt.

This is my mood for my inspirational word, I gathered information and images that inspired me and made me think of fresh when seeing them. I love the cool colours mixed with the different textures.

I showed my mood board to my peers and gathered feedback in order for me to change certain things to improve it, they told me to not think so literal even though they liked the use of textures and images, to go beyond and further with it, to really think outside the box. I also was told to not include so much makeup on my board and concentrate on any images that make you think of 'Fresh' but with structure, so the photos aren't too random, in order to tell a story and collaborate your ideas on; in order for your inspirations to be seen clearly and understood. I will take this on board and will make some adaptations to my mood board.

This week I'm looking at the difference between makeup/ fashion editorial image vs makeup advertisement, you can instantly see the difference in both my chosen images. You can see in the editorial, there is no brand name seen and advertisement there is. This is because the editorial is trying to sell a lifestyle to you, an overall package of makeup, fashion inspirations, the new upcoming fashion sense portrayed in a high fashion style with massive hair, with accessories creating a wow factor with creativity and uniqueness.

Advertisement is selling a brand,it is trying to sell you a makeup product by capturing the audience with flawless (highly edited and retouched) skin, which is very much photo shopped. They make you think that if you buy the product this is "how it will look", it is the beauty of advertisement that entices you in. This is a great selling technique, you will see advertisements on billboards, magazines, the internet, you will subconsciously look and remember these famous brands by their adverts.

With advertisments makeup images,if you see before and after photos, you'd be stunned to see the difference and usually they emphasis lashes (if selling mascara) or even they will write in small print underneath (model is wearing eyelash extensions), even sometimes they aren't actually wearing the makeup product they are wearing. So, how do we know what is real? Don't we want adverts with real women? But products wouldn't sell if the model had bad skin etc. People always thrive to want to look perfect and flawless.

Editorial images, talk about the background of the image and use subtle advertising by adding in the products, designers who were involved in the shoot, it is clever selling techniques; you will find these in high fashion magazines.
