This week I'm looking at the difference between makeup/ fashion editorial image vs makeup advertisement, you can instantly see the difference in both my chosen images. You can see in the editorial, there is no brand name seen and advertisement there is. This is because the editorial is trying to sell a lifestyle to you, an overall package of makeup, fashion inspirations, the new upcoming fashion sense portrayed in a high fashion style with massive hair, with accessories creating a wow factor with creativity and uniqueness.

Advertisement is selling a brand,it is trying to sell you a makeup product by capturing the audience with flawless (highly edited and retouched) skin, which is very much photo shopped. They make you think that if you buy the product this is "how it will look", it is the beauty of advertisement that entices you in. This is a great selling technique, you will see advertisements on billboards, magazines, the internet, you will subconsciously look and remember these famous brands by their adverts.

With advertisments makeup images,if you see before and after photos, you'd be stunned to see the difference and usually they emphasis lashes (if selling mascara) or even they will write in small print underneath (model is wearing eyelash extensions), even sometimes they aren't actually wearing the makeup product they are wearing. So, how do we know what is real? Don't we want adverts with real women? But products wouldn't sell if the model had bad skin etc. People always thrive to want to look perfect and flawless.

Editorial images, talk about the background of the image and use subtle advertising by adding in the products, designers who were involved in the shoot, it is clever selling techniques; you will find these in high fashion magazines.
